Over the last 8 years I have provided cooking lessons in the community for all ages, many of whom have had limited budgets due to their circumstances. Teaching basic skills is very rewarding. It enabling others to cook and gives them choices of what to eat and ultimately control too.
When you don’t know how to cook or had a limited diet some of the food available in tins can seem limiting but with a bit of knowledge you can make interesting meals by combining them together with the addition of a few simple vegetable and herbs.
Over the last three months levels of Foodbank usage has risen as people have lost jobs or have a reduced level of income and extra meals to produce with everyone being at home.
People have found different ways to buy food and not going to the supermarkets mean donations to Foodbank have fallen. Warwick District Foodbank currently have enough tinned food but are short of the following: washing up liquid, cleaning sprays (especially anti bacterial type), toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorants.
I thought I would try to help raise some funds for our local Foodbanks, which will enable them to buy low stock items by arranging a Cook Along Curry night via Zoom. We will be using ingredients typically found in a Foodbank parcel and in people’s cupboards.
The event takes place on Thursday 11th June at 5pm. We will be making a spicy rice chickpea one pot and chapatis. Contact Anne Marie for more details and the Zoom registration link to join in.
